Welcome to 210.org!
Why 1024?
1024 = 210, which means it's the number of possible configurations of ten binary switches. This makes it an important number in computer science.
- 1024 is the number of bytes in a kilobyte, kilobytes in a megabyte, megabytes in a gigabyte, and so on. This was chosen because:
- 210 ≈ 103, which is useful in estimating large powers of 2. See xkcd #394.
